One week till Spring Break!!! Hooray! I know you are all excited and ready for a break but we have a busy week ahead. This is the first week of your fourth nine weeks grades so make sure you don't quit working hard because break is coming.
This week you have your Social Studies and Science Benchmark tests! For my class you have a reading log due Thursday and your powerpoint this week will be a major grade. You have a test on Friday but you will be able to use your powerpoint so make sure you do the best you can on it.
Parents- The powerpoint your student is working on involves them researching and finding an example of the following: main and subordinate clauses, indefinite pronouns, pronoun antecedent agreement, consistent verb tense, puntuation - semicolons, and all key vocabulary under standard 6-3.

(Also, ANY MISSING WORK IS DUE TO MRS. RIGOT!)
Wednesday, March 21- PASS Writing Test from 8:45-11:30
Thursday, March 22- FIELD TRIP to play at Furman and Golden Corral
PASS Writing Test- Please make sure students are rested and here on time! This test involves giving student's a prompt, organizing their ideas, writing a first draft, then writing a final draft. Students need to try their best as this is practice for when they take it in 8th grade.
Notes:
- No reading log this week due to PASS WRITING
- Grades are due this week so all missing work must be turned in by Tuesday
- This week and last week we have been discussing persuasive writing and organization to prepare students for PASS testing.

PROPAGANDA
This Wednesday we are starting propaganda! Our focus will be on looking at how advertisers use bandwagoning and testimonial techniques to attract watchers. Students will be looking at what is bias and how it's used to make people believe certain things. Here are some commercials we will be looking at to start our unit off.

Poetry test week!
Poetry test this coming Friday!!! We will go over our study guide Wednesday, review Thursday, and test on Friday.
Monday and Tuesday we will be finishing up how to TP-CASST a poem and how to look for and identify figurative language.

No more roses are red....
We are starting POETRY! I love teaching poetry because usually my students are terrified at first but end up being very confident in writing and understanding it. We started last week by creating heart maps full of ideas and looking at the importance of vivid details, using "I", and making sure their poems have a point. Students are having a hard time understanding that poetry does not have to rhyme and is not always exactly about whatever the title is so we are changing it up this week (Jan. 23).
This week we are redirecting our focus using the TP-CASST system. This is a structured system to help students learn how to understand the title of a poem, paraphrasing, connotation, attitude, speaker, and theme.
We will have a quiz this Friday and a test next week.

Our newest project!
Writing a Greek Myth
Now that you’ve learned about different Greek myths and the elements of a story, your goal now is to create your own illustrated Greek Myth to depict each of the story elements we’ve talked about in class. Your stories will be typed and bound in a book format, and you will be able to share them with the class.
· You will be creating your own Greek myth to share with the class
· Your myth must explain an event or thing in our world today that can be explained through your gods/goddesses
· You will create your own Greek god or goddess to be the main character in the story. This character must display characteristics that help explain the natural occurrence.

· Your final written paper must have a cast of ancient Greek characters, a Greek setting, a problem or situation, rising action, a climax, falling action, and a final resolution.
· Each of your pages should include a minimum of four sentences. There is a minimum of three pages for your story and a maximum of ten pages for your story.

- Brainstorming
- Purpose description
- Main character sketch
- Setting description
- Plot outline
- Rough draft with peer edit
- Final copy
